The average transcription takes me 15 hours of work just to get to a rough draft.
I slow down the recording to 0.5% or even 0.25% speed and transcribe everything by hand onto manuscript paper, then go back again at a quicker speed and fill in rhythms, then input everything into notation software.

It can can take another 5-15 hours to turn it into a final draft.
Lots of engraving work, homogenization, editorial decisions, even sometimes composing endings for pieces that Klaus “fades out," or filling in passages where pitches or rhythms are unclear.

Evenings Along the Canal took 90 hours!! Partly because it demanded such a high level of engraving knowledge and notation software skill and skullduggery that I was living in engraving books and Musescore forums! After mastering notation software and engraving rules, “But I Alone Am Drifting” holds the record at 25.33 hours to get to a rough draft!

I began transcribing in 2018, and worked in sporadic bursts when I had the time for the next few years. Doing a lot during the first Covid summer, a lot the following two springs, and then reaching a fever pitch in June of 2023 when I decided to start transcribing 2.5 hours daily 7 days per week.

That continued for 6 months until I decided I needed to dig in even harder, and took an artist sabbatical in the Green Mountains of Vermont for another 5 months where I transcribed 6 hours daily, 6 days per week.

Live performances sure, but particularly an interest in commissioning high quality YouTube videos by the platform’s most prominent creators.
Money goes directly to the artist! I can even facilitate a direct donation to them if preferred.

Providing financial scholarships for middle, high school, and college students to study Klaus’s music.

Participants perform recitals of Lendzian’s works to a live audience, with cash prizes awarded to the top 4 finishers.

Similar to any other classical competition, e.g., the International Chopin Festival held annually in Duszniki-Zdrój, Poland.

Really what I would LOVE is if you were interested in a piece, and you sent me an email and said “Hey, I’d really like to play “On Thin Ice”, could you polish it up and send it over to me? Thank you! And here’s some $$$ for your past work as well as the upcoming work to create a final edition of it!”

I’ve been trying to run from this KLA stuff for years. But then I listen to some Lendzian and I just go “gosh darnit, this has to be done.” 🤷‍♂️

It’s partly for me, it’s partly for the world, it’s partly for Klaus. He just wrote too well for the guitar, too good of themes and compositions! I think of myself like John Muir lobbying to save Yosemite—an invaluable treasure that I’m unable to let see vanish.
